Pre-trip goals and objective

During the trip

Cheap labour and established infrasturture are the main factors that make investors from all over the countries to set up their business there. However, for them to be able to remain competitive in China, they have to really adapt to their environment. The most important factor is to know their language. Different parts of China uses different dilect, knowing them would be a benefit. You would be able to communicate with more local interested buyers and get to know their style and culture. In short, one has to be flexible and must be adaptable to the environment in order to excel. Even though, there are incentives and advantages, without the right attitutde, one would not be able to suceed.

Made a couple of good friends during the trip, really enjoyed the times we spent together gossiping at night at someone's room, the time at the tables where there were lots of funny story of each other, the time we spent at those 'nice' toilets, shopping at those busy streets bargaining. Starting to miss those times already.

All in all, learnt, experience and enjoyed alot from this trip.

As we took quite a while there, we were running a little late for our ferry. That's why, upon reaching the jetty, everyone was rushing, grabbing our own luggage and practically ran to the immigration.

Luckily we all manage to board the ferry on time. I slept throughout the one hour ride to Hong Kong.

Back in Hong Kong and the rest of the day was free and easy. We went for some adventuring.

took the tram up.

At the peak, the view was nice!

The wheather was not very good that night, could not really see the what the lazer are showing. It was quite a disappointment. We then walked to nu ren jie. It was a very long walk there. We stopped to have some dessert along the way.

When we finally reached, we started our last market survery there. As there was no curfew that day we too our time to walk around. Met Winnie, Yiling and Andrea along the way then we took a cab back to the hotel. Within minutes we were out again with Lao Yao to have supper at a nearby eatery.

Turn in at 3.

Day10

Today we visited our last company for the trip and that is Zhuhai Southern Software Park.
It was establish in August 2001. They attract foreign investors who are into R&D field and provides tax benefits.

Since technology is advancing, more and more people would be needed in this field. Thus, talent and skillful people are retained. Therefore, they built an area known as the Pioneer Undertaking Park for Chinese Students studying abroad for students and undergraduates studying overseas returning home to set up a business in China. These student has special privileage. Did not hear much explanation during the tour around the park because it was quite hard to catch up with the guide and i got lazy to take down everything that she said.

After that company visit, we went to Zhu Hai Shante Cableway, a place where we could take cable car. Not everyone went to take the cable and that includes me. I was kinda short of cash so i decided to give it a miss. Together with the rest, we went to walk around and took some photos.
me, Bao Yi, Yiling

Ms Ng, Me, Mr Kam

After that we went back to the hotel and gather at one of the majong room for debriefing. As you can see it is rather cramp in there with 37 people in it. With everyone sharing 3 points each and Mr Wong commenting on almost everyone of it, we spent 1 over hour in there. My legs went numb after the whole session.

That was all for the day! The rest of the day was for Market survey, final one in China before we head back to Hong Kong.

Day 9
It is another happy day for us as there was no company visit today! It was another day of sight-seeing.
Our first stop was the Hakka tea planation. A place where they introduce us to the chinese tea and the LingZhi.

the tea plantation

we tried frying the tea leaves! and the one who kick the ball rolling was RONG XING, my group leader

the LingZhi(s)

What's this black colour thing? it's the LingZhi soup..it's VERY bitter

after the frying, lets try out the final product! Teas!

After lunch, we went to the next destination, Chang Ming Chun 长命村. Along the way there, Xiao Deng told us about the story about the well water which said to bring longevity. Before we alighted the bus, he reminded ask us to bring along our water bottle down to bring some of the water back.

this is the well water Xiao Deng was talking about

Xiao Deng became a temporary bottle filler, he filled all our bottles with the water. he even say he should charge us for doing that.

There were rides for us to take there too. Do not think too far, not the kind of amusement park ride but rides on animals! There was either the horse or the bull. Some took a try on the horse but no one took the bull.

-the horse-

-the bull-

The rest who did not take any ride up and down the hill, went to try archery.

Mr Wong was the first to try out

I had a shot too.

While we were on our way to the next destination, we had a stop over at a Strawberry farm. This was the stop that everyone was all looking forward to, especially Elizabeth.

the field of strawberry

STRAWBERRIES look at everyone busy plucking strawberries !
the basket full of strawberries

Everyone bought what they plucked! A fruitful trip.

Then we proceed on to our next destintation the Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park.

There was where the most comical scene was seen. Before we enter the park, everyone was looking for the wash room already. After Xiao Deng got the tickets, almost everyone ran to the wash room after entering the park. This is what happened when there isnt any toilet to use after such a long journey.

have a peek!

The toilet was very nicely decorated and it was one of the most classy toilet we went. It was so nice until most of us start taking out our camera and snapping picture of it.

After eveyone was out of toilet, we went for a guided tour around the house that Sun Yat Sen live in. Took a look at how the house he live in look like and all the things that he used. Photography was not allowed inside therefore no pics to show.

the outside view of the house

We were then bought to another building, the memorial hall, where the history about Sun Yat Sen were all display there.

Day 8

We set off in the morning to the first company, Sunten Company ( 顺特电气厂).

The company was established in 1988, with 2 distribution factory. They produce product that helps to generate electricity and their main products are:

  1. Dry type Transfomer
  2. Ractor
  3. Substance
  4. Switch Gear

Airport and Toyota company electrictity is provided by them. From the sales from these regular customers, they have earn a yearly turnover of $15 billion. They have a total of 1500 employees hired, local employees are hired for 'guanxi' purpose and foreign employees are hired for company stand purpose.

Dry type transformer

They faced many competitors who are in the same field as them in China and to remain competitive. How? They enusre that they maintain their quality product and also improving their product by introducing Research and Development. Sunten has decided to go into joint venture with a French Company to solve the capital shortage that they are experiencing now.

They have manage to market their product internationally and have increase their overseas customers to 50% from the previously small amout of 10%. They have customers from the Middle East, Malaysia, Iran, Korea, Macau and USA.

I think that the company has really done a good job in able to remain competitive with so many competition. Their customers are very important to them, if they did not improve or maintain their quality, have a good relationship with the customers and not gaining the trust from the customers, they might lose them.

After visiting the company, we went for some sightsee-ing at the Sun Yat Sen Park.

A group of us started to have a some crazy photo taking session. Why do i call it crazy? The pictures below shall tell the story.

it begins with this.

and then this..

finally this..

From left: ZheYing, Elizabeth, RongXing, Kezia, Dickson, ZhiWen, PeiXuan, Me, GuangHong, BaoYi, Sherly

Everytime a group starts taking photo, more and more people will join in and at the end the photograher/(s) would have lots of cameras on hand.

Saw this cute little boy there.

He was like a star surrounded by his fans wanting to take photo with him.

After our lunch, we proceed our journey to Zhong Shan and visited the Ju Xiang Yuan Factory(咀香园) where the most famous almond biscuit was produced.

We were told of how the almond biscuit was produced from the machine and also manually. Some of us even had a tried. We had a try on their products but many left that place empty handed as Mr Deng told us that we would be bought to a cheaper place tomorrow.

demo

Next we went to the Zhong Shan Touch Trade Development Zone (火炬开发区) which was just a few streets away. Many of us went in there with zero knowledge about what this company is about, some thought its got to be something to do with manufacuring torch or something to do with trains.

At the end it was just a government regulated company which is responsible for developing and orgainsing high tech, professional and services related technology industries, that includes Ju Xiang Yuan, in that whole development area.

It mainly caters to overseas companies. They are going practicing to be more eco-environment, therefore they only accept company that would no cause any pollution to the environment. The place is still developing with many of the industries still in construction.
